4. Environmental Balance
Question And Answer
Q.1 What’s the solution?
We have to remove insects from the grain without using insecticides.
Ans: 1) The plants like neem or their extract can be used to remove insects from the grain. If we place dried leaves of neem the grains will be freed from the insects, they will go away.
2) Birds or other insects which eat the insects can be used for removing insects.
3) Keep the grains in sunlight the insects will get separated.
Q.2 Use your brain power !
Make up a food chain :
Frog, Kite, Worm, Snake, Grass
Ans: Grass – Worm – Frog – Snake – Kite.
Q3. Answer the following questions.
1) What is a food chain? Give an example of it.
Ans: 1) The sun, some plants, a worm, a grasshopper and a sparrow. They all are connected.
2) Each of the components – Plants, worm, grasshopper, and bird- is food for the next one.
3) That is why we say that they form a chain. Such a chain is called a food chain. Each of these components is a link in a food chain.
2) How is the balance in the environment maintained?
Ans: 1) Plants use substances in the soil for their growth
2) When plants and animals die, the decomposition of their remains adds these substances to the soil once again. This is an important cycle in the environment. Due to this environment to balance is maintained.
Q4. What substances in the soil are useful for the growth of plants?
Ans: Micro-organisms living in the soil help the process of decomposition of plant residue, dead animals, excreta etc. As a result, substances that help the growth of plants are formed and get added to the soil. Plants use them for their growth.
Q5. True or false?
1) Micro-organisms form a part of the environment – True
2) It is necessary to maintain biodiversity – True
3) A grasshopper eats birds - False
