Q1. Study the physical map of India carefully and answer the questions.
(1) Find the mountains and name them.
Ans: The mountains shown in the map are Zaskar mountain, Satpuda mountain range, Sahyadri mountain range etc.
2) Name the hills shown on the map.
Ans: The hills shown the map are : Girnar Hills, Rajmahal Hills, Kaimur Hills, Mahadeo Hills, Satmala Hills, Nilgiri Hills, Nallamalla Hills, Anaimalai Hills, Cardamom Hills etc.
3) Find and name the plateaus in the map.
Ans: The plateaus shown in the map are : Mewad Plateau, Telangana Plateau, Maharashtra Plateau, Karnataka Plateau, Deccan Plateau etc.
4) Which rivers originate in the Himalayas and join the Indus? Consider the height and write the direction of their flow.
Ans: Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Beas and Sutlaj originate in Himalayas and join river Indus. The direction of their flow is southwards.
5) Write the names of the major rivers which flow into the Coromandel coast.
Ans: Kaveri, Palar, Pennar and Krishna rivers flow into the Coromandel coast.
6) Study the course of the Ganga, Narmada, Vainganga, Godavari and Kaveri rivers. Note the slope of the land in each basin and write the direction of the slope.
Ans: The direction of the land slope is towards north.
7) Find the lakes on the map and name them.
Ans: The lakes shown on the map are Lonar lake, Sambhar lake, Salt lake, Manasarowar lake etc.
8) Find and name the gulfs and the direction in which they are located with respect to India.
Ans: Gulf of Kachchh and Gulf of Khambhat is towards west of India and Gulf of Mannar is toward south.
9) Study the water bodies on the three sides of India. Find their names and write the direction in which they are located.
Ans: Arabian sea lies to west, Bay of Bengal lies to east ad Indian Ocean towards south of India.
10) Find the Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Island groups and write the names of some of the islands.
Ans: Camorta island, Car Nicobar island, Kilttan island, Chettlatt island are some of the islands of India.
11) Which river basin is located in the northern plain of India?
Ans: The Ganga basin is located in the northern plain of India.
Q2. Study the political map of India given above and answer the questions.
1. Find our State. Colour it with your favourite colour and write the name of its capital.
Ans: Maharashtra is our State and Mumbai is its capital.
2. Which is the northernmost State ?
Ans: Jammu and Kashmir is the northernmost State.
3. Which is the southernmost State ?
Ans: Tamilnadu is the southernmost State.
4. Colour the States to the north-east in different colours. Write their names and the names of their capitals.
Ans: Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar are north-east state and Shimla, Deharadun, Lucknow, Patna are its capital respectively.
5. Colour the largest State in yellow and circle its capital.
Ans: The largest state in India is Rajasthan and its capital is Jaipur.
6. What do the names in red letters show ?
Ans: The names in red letters shows the Union Territories.
Q3. Study the map given above carefully. This map shows some of the crops and transport routes in India. Answer the questions given below with the help of the map.
(1) From where will we obtain saffron? Trace the most convenient route.
Ans: Saffron is obtained from Srinagar.
(2) In which States is tea grown?
Ans: Tea is grown in Assam and Sikkim.
(3) Find the route taken to bring cloves into our State and trace it.
Ans: This is the route taken, to bring cloves into our state.
(4) Find the States in which apples are grown. Circle their names.
Ans: Apples are grown in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
(5) Find the route to deliver oranges from Nagpur to Bikaner and trace it.
Ans: This is the route to deliver oranges from Nagpur to Bikaner.
(6) Find a route to deliver coffee and mangoes to West Bengal and trace it.
Ans: This is the route to deliver coffee and mangoes to West Bengal.
(7) How will you send onions from Maharashtra to Arunachal Pradesh?
Ans: We can send Onions by Airways from Maharashtra to Arunachal Pradesh.
