Ans: The most important functions of the skin are:
1) Protecting the internal parts of the body like muscles, bones, organ systems etc.
2) Help preserve the moisture in the body.
3) Synthesizing vitamin ‘D’.
4) Releasing sweat to regulate body temperature.
5) Giving protection from the heat and cold.
6) The skin functions as the sensory organ of touch.

(b) What should you do to keep your bones strong and healthy ?
Ans: The following things should be done in order to keep our bones healthy and strong:
1) Have calcium rich foods like milk, yoghurt as calcium is an important component of bones.
2) We need to take enough vitamin D as it helps in the absorption of calcium present in foods.
3) Avoid highly process food, along with a healthy diet physical activity is also essential for strong bones. Walking, exercise also help to keep bones strong and healthy.

(c) What are the functions of the human skeletal system ?
Ans: Following are the functions of human skeletal system.
1) The skeletal gives a shape to the body.
2) All the bones of body form the skeletal system.
3) They provide support and protect the delicate organs inside the body.
4) They help in production of blood cells.

(d) Which are the various reasons due to which our bones might break ?
Ans: Following are the reasons due to which our bones might break.
1) Sports injuries
2) Stress injuries
3) Fracture due to fall
4) Osteoporosis due to calcium loss
5) Brittle bone disease
6) Due to accident

(e) What are the different types of bones ? How many types are there ?
Ans: There are four types of bones:
1) Flat bones
2) Small bones
3) Irregular bones
4) Long bones
1) Flat bones: Flat bones are strong flat plates of bone, who providing protection to the vital organs. Ex. Hip bone, Cranium
2) Small bones: They have primary function of providing support and stability with little moments. Ex. Foot bones
3) Irregular bones: These bones in the body do not fall into any category due to their non-uniform shape. Ex. Vertebrae, Sacrum
4) Long bones: These are the longest bones in the body Ex. Tibia



6. What will happen if - ?
(a) There are no joints in our body.
Ans: If there are no joints in our body than, we can’t walk, run, jump and move from place to place. We can’t bend arms and legs. We are not able to bend or rotated our body we can’t bend our head forward, backward and turn our body to our right or left.

(b) There is no melanin pigment in our skin.
Ans: If there is no melanin pigment in our skin, than the skin and inner parts cannot be protected from ultraviolet rays, the fairness and darkness can not be decided.

(c) Instead of 33 vertebrae in our body, we had one single and straight bone.
Ans: If instead of 33 vertebrae in our body we have one signal and straight bone then we won’t be able to move, bend, walk, sit and work.
